Chinese Immersion Camp – YaYa’s Journey Home《回乡偶书》

Background Story: At just three years old, YaYa the Panda left her home in Beijing to travel all the way to Memphis, where she served as a cultural ambassador for China. For twenty wonderful years, she shared joy and friendship with her new community. Now, in her golden years, YaYa is returning to Beijing as a beloved grand dame. On her journey home, YaYa wanders through a lively street lined with traditional Chinese craft workshops. Captivated by the beauty and heritage of each art form, she stops to watch the master artisans at work. With her boundless curiosity and love for culture, YaYa eagerly tries her paw at every craft, discovering the timeless skills and stories that have been passed down for generations.

Programme Objectives: Our full-day Immersion camp is the perfect blend of learning ahead for the next academic year and practicing Mandarin everyday through crafts and excursions. Children will be split into their various levels in school for Headstart Chinese classes in the morning, followed by lunch. After lunch, we will step into the world of Chinese Arts and Culture with YaYa the Panda. Learn about traditional Chinese art forms like Song Dynasty-style gemstone painting, cloisonné, bamboo weaving, and paper making; or even make your own traditional Chinese snack.
